Powell, OH – The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Grange Insurance Audubon Center are co-hosting a lecture experience with naturalist and award-winning author Sy Montgomery on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center located at 505 W. Whittier in Columbus.

Described by the New York Times as “equal parts poet and scientist” and by the Boston Globe as “part Indiana Jones part Emily Dickinson,” Sy Montgomery returns to central Ohio with tales to tell – funny, fascinating and feathered – all detailed in her new, critically acclaimed book, “Birdology: Adventures with a pack of hens, a peck of pigeons, cantankerous crows, fierce falcons, hip hop parrots, baby hummingbirds, and one murderously big living dinosaur.”

Sy Montgomery describes how she bashed through the Australian rainforest to meet up with the most dangerous bird in the world, the 150-pound cassowary.  She took years of falconry lessons; worked with a wildlife rehabilitator to raise and release orphaned baby hummingbirds; and shares her heartwarming stories of 20 years of living with affectionate and individualistic hens.  “Birdology” is an exploration of the essence of birds through adventures with seven species.

The evening includes birds from the Columbus Zoo and a reception and book signing following the presentation.  Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased on-line at www.columbuszoo.org
