Powell, OH – Central Ohio’s favorite holiday tradition, Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, continues through Jan.1, 2011 with added features in the Zoo’s Holiday Encounters Village .
On Monday, Dec. 27 the Zoo will open the Junior Avalanche Tubing Hill for children ages 2 through 12. The new seasonal attraction will consist of two shoots, and tubes will be provided for all participants. The $1.00 per child fee (in addition to admission to the Zoo) provides unlimited slides for the whole day. The Junior Avalanche Tubing Hill will be open through Jan. 1, 2011 from noon to close and is made possible by Mad River Mountain .
Join the countdown to the New Year with a special Zoo Year’s Eve version of Rodney and Wally’s Not So Silent Night animated holiday light show. The show will be presented nightly every 30 minutes starting at 5:45 p.m. until close.
Wildlights is brighter and greener than ever with nearly three million LED lights and two animated light shows. Although Santa and Mrs. Claus have headed back to the North Pole, their reindeer are on holiday at the Zoo. Other holiday happenings include the Magical Timbernacle Forest Chorus presented by Disney on Ice and featuring 29 melodious animatronic arbors, and memory boxes featuring replica memorabilia from great holiday moments such as “A Christmas Story”, “Elf”, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and more.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium opens every day at 10 a.m. and Wildlights hours through Jan.1, 2011 are Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open 363 days of the year. General admission is $12.99 for adults, $7.99 for children ages 2 to 9 and seniors 60+. Children under 2 and Columbus Zoo members are free.
