For more than 15 years, Krista has shared her time, talent, and treasure to make a difference for the animals and programs she cares about most. Her journey began with a Friends of the Zoo experience, where she connected with the expert Animal Care team and enjoyed an up-close experience with elephants and rhinos. That moment sparked a deep passion, leading her to become a docent, event committee member, tour guide, and volunteer at The Wilds. Along the way, she’s made lasting friendships, had the honor of naming Russet the cow and Mo-Joe the rhino, and played a key role in educating guests.
The North America Trek region holds a special place in Krista’s heart—it’s home to rescued wildlife and a haven for species like moose, songbirds, and others in need of a second chance. As a dedicated educator, she values the Zoo’s mission of “Empowering People. Saving Wildlife.” and its commitment to fostering connections between people and wildlife. “Every employee works to create an atmosphere where guests—no matter their age—can develop empathetic connections to wildlife,” she shared. “Without the work of the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds, I worry that future generations will miss out on the incredible species we have today.”
But Krista’s support goes even further than her time. She believes in the power of giving to result in both a local and global impact, knowing the Zoo’s conservation efforts stretch far beyond Ohio—supporting rescue, rehabilitation, and reintroduction programs for species like manatees, headstart and release programs for hellbenders, and vital care for orphaned moose calves. “Helping wildlife helps people, and helping people helps wildlife,” she said. “A donation to the Zoo means I can play a small role in making the world a better place for both.”
Krista’s story is a testament to the incredible difference one person can make. Through her unwavering dedication and generosity, she embodies the spirit of our mission—an advocate, a volunteer, and a true champion for wildlife.
