  • Even if you do not plan on visiting the Zoo this day, you can still participate in the recycling drive! Upon arrival, let the parking booth attendant know that you are participating in the recycling drive and you will be able to enter the parking lot at no charge. Once in the parking lot, head towards the entrance of the Zoo, and you will see the table and tent set up.

So, how does recycling electronic devices help support gorilla conservation?

Smartphones and other electronic devices contain coltan, a mineral compound used to power small electronics. Mining for coltan can contribute to gorilla habitat destruction as well as to military and economic conflict. Recycling small electronic devices reduces the demand for coltan, keeps potentially harmful materials out of our landfills, and raises money for gorilla conservation.
