Lions are the second largest of the big cats, right behind Amur Tigers as the largest.
They are the only cats that live in cohesive social groups called prides. Family groups are usually one male, several females, and their cubs. Lions within a pride are often affectionate and, when resting, seem to enjoy good fellowship with lots of touching, head rubbing, licking and purring.
