Flamingos get their pink color from the food they eat!
Many of the foods they eat contain carotenoids, or red and yellow pigments, that change the color of their feathers and skin. If flamingos lack these types of foods in their diet, their feathers can fade to white.
OhioHealth Tip: It’s also important for humans to eat different colored foods regularly! We like to call it “eating the rainbow”. When your plate is full of colorful plants, you’re getting a wide variety of phytonutrients. Our blog will help you learn about the colors of your food and how they benefit you.
