Did You Know: Kangaroos usually live in small groups called mobs!
These mobs include one dominant male, about 2-3 females with their young, and about 2-3 young males. Members of the mob often engage in nose touching or sniffing to build cohesion within the group. Kangaroos are also marsupials. Female kangaroos are busy mothers, but they have a few neat tricks to help them out. They can have 3 babies in different stages of development going on at the same time. She can have an embryo in her uterus, a baby suckling in her pouch and an older Joey that is still pouch dependent. Even after leaving the pouch, the joey continues to feed off the mother for approximately a year and a half.
OhioHealth Tip: If you’re jumping through the brush like a kangaroo, beware of poisonous plants! Get familiar with spotting poison ivy and share that with your kiddos, too! Explain that they should avoid touching the plant because it could harm them. And if they do encounter the poisonous plant, most cases of it can be treated at home with ointments, oatmeal baths, and cool water.
