The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is searching for friendly, enthusiastic, conservation-minded adults, ages 18 and older, to volunteer in our animal contact areas.

We strive to attract and retain quality, committed individuals who share in the Zoo's philosophies and mission statement. We choose volunteers who are best suited for each position and who possess the necessary skills, education, experience and qualifications to fit the requirements.

First-year volunteers can volunteer in these areas:

  • Lorikeet Aviary
  • Kangaroo Walkabout
  • Touch Pool
  • Reptile Encounter
  • Asia Quest Aviary
  • Stingray Bay

Second-year volunteers can volunteer in the above areas and also:

  • My Barn at Habitat Hollow
  • Giraffe Shamba
  • Adventure Cove Deck
  • Adventure Cove Tunnel

These opportunities are long-term, and volunteers are assigned based on operational needs and availability. We ask each volunteer to commit to volunteering at least 55 hours a year.

Please Note: Volunteers will not be utilized in behind-the-scenes roles, will not help with husbandry, and will have very limited direct contact with animals.

Our Adult Volunteer class for 2024 is in the onboarding process. If you complete the adult volunteer application, your application will be kept on file and you will be contacted in early November regarding volunteer orientation dates for 2025.
